Japanese Sword Katana 67.6cm Inoue Shinkai 井上真改 Edo era 1600s
From the early to mid-Edo period, a swordsmith who used the signature “Kunisada” in Settsu Province (present-day Osaka) was involved in sword forging across three generations. The second of these was “Inoue Shinkai.” This swordsmith used the signature ‘Kunisada’ until his middle age, but began using “Shinkai” in his later years. Inoue Shinkai was a master swordsmith counted among the three great masters of the “Osaka Shinto” style, alongside Tsuda Echizen no Kami Sukehiro and Awata-guchi Ikkanshi Tadatsuna. He is also known by the alternate name “Osaka Masamune.”.
