Onizuka Yoshikuni was a swordsmith from Chikugo. Born in 1500 in Iwate, Oshu, he later moved to the castle town of Yanagawa in Chikugo Province, where he forged swords. His blades were highly regarded for their sharpness. Besides the anecdote that Mito Mitsukuni used an Onizuka Yoshikuni sword to punish an evil monk, his work was praised during World War II as a masterpiece of the Showa era.
